Relocation, Relocation, Relocation: Making the Move to Antigua & Barbuda

Moving to a new country is an adventure—both exciting and challenging. If you’re considering relocating to the stunning paradise of Antigua & Barbuda, let Carly Davies, Company Director at Luxury Locations Antigua, calm your nerves and assure you it’s likely to be the best decision you’ll ever make.

Having already experienced expat life in New Zealand for nearly a decade, Carly shares her personal journey of moving to Antigua and offers valuable insights to help you make the leap.

Why Antigua & Barbuda?

“I loved my time in New Zealand but was ready for a change,” Carly explains. “Exploring new places helps you grow and appreciate the world. Plus, being closer to home cuts travel time for visiting family, which is a bonus.”

Life in Antigua

For Carly, the island’s laid-back lifestyle, beachside simplicity, and amazing weather make every day feel like a dream.

She chose to settle on the West Coast, known for its calm Caribbean waters and picturesque beaches. “The sea here is exactly what you imagine when you think of a Caribbean beach. And being just a two-minute walk from the beach? Absolute heaven!”

Navigating Rentals

Currently, Carly lives in a long-term rental, though she’s considering purchasing in Valley Church after selling her New Zealand home.

Finding a rental wasn’t without challenges. “During high season, options are limited, and prices are higher,” Carly notes. With the help of Luxury Locations, however, the process was hassle-free.

The Practicalities of Moving

Carly’s move began with a visitor’s visa, which allows UK citizens up to six months on the island. Her partner obtained a work permit before their arrival, and while the process can be lengthy, there’s now a fast-track service available.

Her advice? Pack light. “I came with just the luggage I could carry. For the Antigua lifestyle, you don’t need much!”

Settling in was straightforward thanks to the welcoming local community and a network of expats eager to share their experiences.

Life in Paradise

Adapting to life in Antigua came naturally to Carly. “It’s the opposite of New Zealand and England, but it already feels like home. The views and nature here are breathtaking, and I feel incredibly lucky every day.”

3.Don’t Drink Rum Punch on an Empty Stomach

Enough said!
